Family Therapy

I offer a safe and supportive space where you and your family can work through challenges, improve communication, and strengthen your bonds.

Whether you’re facing difficulties related to parenting, life transitions, or strained relationships, family therapy can help you all navigate these issues together.

Each family member will have the opportunity to express their thoughts and feelings while we work together to foster understanding and resolve conflicts.

What I can help with

Family therapy addresses a wide range of issues that can impact family dynamics, including:

• Communication Issues: I help families improve how they communicate starting within the safe therapeutic space, for each family member to express themselves and work towards validation, as individuals within the family unit, ensuring better understanding and fewer misunderstandings.

• Parenting Challenges: I support parents and children 16+ in addressing conflicts or challenges that arise within the family structure.

• Life Transitions: Major changes professionally, college/university, divorce, loss, or relocation can disrupt family harmony. Therapy provides guidance in adjusting to these changes.

• Conflict Resolution: Therapy helps resolve ongoing disputes, allowing family members to work together in finding solutions.

• Strengthening Bonds: Therapy promotes deeper connections between family members by encouraging cooperative efforts towards shared goals.

Goals of Family Therapy

The primary aim of family therapy is to improve the overall functioning of the family by addressing interpersonal challenges. I help families work through their concerns while focusing on enhancing communication, resolving conflicts, and fostering stronger relationships.

When needed, I also assist in addressing individual issues within the context of the family dynamic, such as a family member’s mental health condition, emotional wellbeing or stress.

Why Does Family Therapy Work?

Family therapy is successful because it looks at the family as a unit and focuses on improving interactions and relationships within that system. Here’s how it helps:

Understanding Family Dynamics

Through therapy, family members gain insight into the roles and patterns that influence their interactions. Recognising these dynamics helps everyone understand how their behaviours affect the entire family.

Improving Communication

Therapy encourages open and honest communication, giving each family member the chance to voice their thoughts and feelings in a constructive manner. This leads to better mutual understanding and fewer conflicts.

Resolving Conflicts

I guide families in addressing underlying issues and help them explore the root causes of their disagreements, leading to healthier problem-solving approaches.

Strengthening Bonds

Family therapy’s collaborative nature fosters teamwork within the family, promoting resilience and unity. This shared effort creates a stronger, more connected family unit.

An Individualised Approach

I take an individualised approach to family therapy, recognising that every family is special and each family member is a unique individual. I use a combination of person-centred, cognitive-behavioural, and systemic techniques to meet your family’s specific needs.

In our sessions, I will work with you (the family) to identify and break unhealthy patterns while creating an empathic environment of support, understanding, and growth. Whether you’re working through specific conflicts or striving to improve overall family dynamics, family therapy can help bring about meaningful, long-lasting change.
